What is the Clearinghouse?

So to improve safety on public roads and highways, the FMCSA has developed a system that allows agencies, companies, and law enforcement officials to quickly identify Commercial Driver's License holders (CDL drivers) and Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) holders who have committed a drug and alcohol program violation. This system is called the Clearinghouse.

What is the Purpose of the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse?

The CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse went into effect on January 6, 2020. Through this secure online database, you will have all the necessary tools and information you need to identify drivers who are prohibited from operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). The system allows you to know if a driver has committed a drug and alcohol program offense while under a different employer. This is important as current regulations require drivers to inform another employer of such cases. Additionally, Clearinghouse will help you identify drivers who go "job-hopping" or those who move often and obtain CDLs in different states.
