Drug screening tests are the most common type of drug test. The most common drug screen test is the 5 panel drug screen test, which screens for five of the most commonly used drugs: cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines, opiates, and PCP. The 10-panel drug screen test, on the other hand, screens for ten drugs, which includes the five drugs tested in the 5 panel drug screen test as well as benzodiazepines, methadone, barbiturates, methadone and propoxyphene. While the 10-panel drug screen test is more comprehensive, it is also more expensive. It is crucial for employers to choose the right type of drug test for their specific needs.
Drug detection time refers to the period that a drug can be detected in the body after use. The drug detection time for a urine test varies depending on the drug, dose, and duration of use. Some drugs, such as marijuana, can be detected in urine for up to 30 days after use, while others, such as cocaine, can be detected for up to four days. Detection times for oral fluid and hair tests also vary depending on the drug, dose, and duration of use. Oral fluid tests can detect drug use for up to24- 48 hours, while hair tests can detect drug use for up to 90 days.
Employers must know the drugs they are testing for to ensure that they do not miss the opportunity to detect drug use. While it is important to detect drug use, it is also crucial to ensure that drug testing is conducted according to legal requirements. A medical review officer (MRO) must approve all DOT Drug Test and highly recommended for all non-reg drug test results, and the drug test must be conducted according to strict guidelines. Employers must also ensure that employees who test positive have the opportunity to explain or dispute the results through the Medical Review Officer or MRO process.
Medical Review Officers also manage the safety sensitive notification. This is when an employee or applicant test positive for a narcotic and the MRO has a safety sensitive issue with the individual taking the drug and performing safety sensitive duties. Although the employee tested positive for the drug screen, the MRO will report it as a negative. The MRO will also report a safety sensitive notification that the drug the individual uses could cause a problem. The individual will then go to their physician or an occupation health specialist and provide a letter that states it is OK to perform safety sensitive duties while taking this drug. In the vast majority of cases, the physician will provide another prescription for the individuals ailment.
Drug testing can be done in several places, and there are many drug test centers near you. You can also conduct drug testing onsite or hire a third-party vendor to conduct drug testing in your facility. Onsite drug testing is convenient and cost-effective, but it requires trained personnel to conduct the test. Hiring a third-party vendor to conduct drug testing in your facility is more expensive, can be more reliable and ensures that the test is conducted according to legal requirements. Additionally, it removes the accusations that an individual inside the company is out to get individuals who are getting tested. We have 20,000 plus sites that perform Drug and Alcohol Testing and/or NON DOT Physicals and DOT Physicals.
